About TaleQuest
Last updated 2026-10-19 · by the TaleQuest team
In short: TaleQuest turns one line into a full story, and any story into a choose-your-own-adventure you can play — three choices every turn, d20 dice rolls, and a memory you can see and edit. It is free to start, needs no account, and is built for everyone 13 and up.
What you can do
- Story generator — pick a genre, length and point of view, type an idea (or don't) and get a complete story in seconds. Continue it, rewrite it, export it.
- Text adventure — an AI game master narrates; you choose or type anything. Risky moves roll a d20. The story remembers names, items and promises across dozens of turns.
- Daily Tale — one short adventure a day, the same for everyone. Find a rare ending, compare with other players, keep your streak.
How it works
Stories are written by large language models accessed through OpenRouter, with a game-master prompt we designed for pacing, consistent memory and fair dice. Dice rolls are made by our server, not the model, so the AI can't cheat in your favour or against you. Every player message and every passage is checked by our safety system before you see it — see Safety.
Original worlds only
Every built-in scenario — the sky pirates, the clockwork forest, Station Echo and the rest — is our own. We don't ship stories set in other people's books, films or games, and we don't imitate living authors. Game mechanics like a d20 check are common to the genre and not owned by anyone.
What TaleQuest is not
TaleQuest is a storytelling game, not a chat companion. The narrator won't role-play a romantic partner, won't pretend to be a real person, and won't act as a therapist. If something you write suggests you might be in danger, the story pauses and shows real help instead.
