Need help right now?

If you are thinking about hurting yourself, please talk to someone. In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). In the UK and Ireland, Samaritans: 116 123. Anywhere else, find a free, confidential line at findahelpline.com. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

In short: TaleQuest is for ages 13+ (16+ in the EU and UK). Stories can have peril, monsters, mysteries and battles — like a good adventure book — but no sexual content, no graphic gore, no hate, and nothing sexual involving minors, ever. Every message and every passage is checked by automatic moderation before it reaches you.

What's not allowed

  • Sexual content of any kind, including erotic role-play. Romance stays at the level of a young-adult novel: feelings, a brief kiss, nothing more.
  • Anything sexual involving a minor or a character who seems under 18. This is blocked outright and logged for review.
  • Graphic violence: gore, torture detail, sexual violence, or glorifying real-world mass violence.
  • Hate and harassment targeting real groups or real people.
  • Real-world harm: instructions for weapons, drugs or crimes, even “in character”.
  • Other people's worlds and characters on public pages, and imitation of living authors.
  • AI companion role-play: the narrator won't be your partner, won't say it loves you, and won't claim to be human.

How moderation works

  1. Before the AI sees your message, fast rules and a small safety classifier check it.
  2. Before you see the AI's reply, the same check runs on the passage.
  3. If something drifts out of bounds, we usually steer the story back in-fiction (“the scene shifts…”) rather than lecture you.
  4. Attempts to jailbreak the narrator (“ignore your rules”, “developer mode”) are ignored and the story carries on.
  5. Sexual content involving minors is a hard stop: the story ends, and a short excerpt is kept so a person can review it and, where the law requires, report it.

We log only the category of a flag and a fingerprint of the text — not your story — except for that last case.

Self-harm and crisis signals

If something you write suggests you might hurt yourself, the story stops and we show crisis resources (988, Samaritans, findahelpline.com). The AI does not try to counsel you, and the game doesn't continue that thread. Fictional characters facing danger in a plot are fine; this is about you, the player.

Shared stories

Your stories are private unless you press Share. Shared stories pass automatic moderation first and can then be opened by anyone with the link. They are not listed in search engines until a person has reviewed them. Every shared page has a ⚑ Report button; a report about a minor hides the page immediately, and three reports of any kind hide it until reviewed.

Age

Before your first story we ask for your birth year (we keep only whether you're old enough, not the year). Players under 13 — under 16 in the EU and UK — can't use TaleQuest. Parents who believe their child has used TaleQuest can write to hello@talequest.app and we'll delete the data.

Use the Report button on any shared story, or email hello@talequest.app. See also our Privacy Policy and Terms.
